Our very first serama chick hatched this morning (why do all these animals pop out in the early morning), put him in with 2 others that we found hatched today from the incubator.

If you've never seen a serama chick before it's the smallest chicken in the world.  That should point you to which one is the serama chick.

This hatchling was the first out of 15 eggs that was fertile. We still have a bunch of serama eggs in the incubator. We get around 2 to 3 serama eggs laid daily.

Here's the size difference between a 1 day old serama chick and a normal chick.

way to go bob. what is your average of fertile eggs using your own eggs i assume. i had a broody hatch 3 last week. out of the 6 eggs from my own flock 4 were fertile not bad. i want to hatch some more soon but got to get another broody first. i like hatching with broodys. im sure when momma hen gets tired of her chicks she will go broody again.

The normal chicks have been around 80%. The serama eggs are a different story though. Out of the 4 adult pairs I have it seems only 1 has been fertilizing their eggs. I have maybe 3 more juvenile pairs coming along but it will take time before they are ready.

Out of the serama's I have silkies, frizzles and the regular (smooth). So far only the smooth has hatched.

oh that chick is tiny !!!

I had some eggs shipped to me and they slipped one tiny serama egg in with them .. it was fertile but the chick never made it out of the egg .. it pipped than died :(

I heard they were tough to hatch
